Properties:
Calamus oil has a warm, spicy odor, reminding of sweet forest.

Origin:
Calamus is native to northern Europe and Asia.

Extraction Method:
It is extracted from fresh or dried roots by steam distillation.

Chemical composition:
acorenone, isoshyobunine, asarone, calamendiol, a-selinene, a-calacorene, calamusenone, camphone and shyobunone.

Uses:

  1. The root of this plant is used in herbal medicine for the treatment of nervous complaints, vertigo, headaches and dysentery.

Precautions:

  • This oil should not be used in aromatherapy.
  • Oral ingestion of calamus oil can cause convulsions and liver and kidney damage.
