Properties:
Geranium essential oil is colourless, but has a tinge of light green colour to it. It has a watery viscosity.

Origin:
It originated from South Africa, as well as Reunion, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco.

Extraction Method:
The leaves and stalks are used for extraction and is extracted using steam distillation.

Chemical composition:
A-pinene, myrcene, limonene, menthone, linalool, geranyl acetate, citronellol, geraniol and geranyl butyrate.

Therapeutic properties:
Astringent, haemostatic, diuretic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, tonic, antibiotic, anti-spasmodic and as an anti-infectious agent.

Uses:
Geranium oil can be used to help in the treatment of:

  2. bruises
  3. burns
  4. cuts
  5. dermatitis
  6. eczema
  7. hemorrhoids
  8. lice
  9. mosquito repellant
  10. ringworm
  11. ulcers
  12. breast engorgement
  13. edema
  14. poor circulation
  15. sore throat
  16. tonsillitis
  17. PMS
  18. menopausal problems
  19. stress
  20. neuralgia

Precautions:

  • Geranium oil does not cause any side effects, since it is non-toxic, non-irritant and generally non-sensitizing, yet can cause sensitivity in some people and due to the fact that it balances the hormonal system.
  • Avoid using it during pregnancy.

Blends well with:

Angelica, Basil, Bergamot, Clary-sage, Fennel, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Neroli.
